Sustainability and Urban Resilience
Sustainability is at the core of Airlea’s vision for Toronto. She is committed to advancing sustainable urbanism by integrating green infrastructure, such as rain gardens, green roofs, bioswales, and permeable pavements, to improve stormwater management and reduce urban heat. She also advocates for walkable city planning, investment in public transit, and waste reduction strategies to lower Toronto’s environmental footprint.
To build a greener Toronto we must:
-
Expand Green Infrastructure – Implement rain gardens, green roofs, and urban forests to enhance air quality and reduce flooding.
-
Invest in Public Transit & Active Transportation – Improve bus and streetcar networks, expand bike lanes, and create pedestrian-friendly spaces to reduce reliance on cars.
-
Strengthen Circular Economy Practices – Improve composting programs, waste diversion efforts, and plastic reduction initiatives to cut landfill waste.
-
Enhance Urban Biodiversity – Protect and expand green spaces, pollinator gardens, and native tree planting programs to support local ecosystems.
